The Rantings of Duncan's Mommy

a snowy one

Duncan got out at 12 noon today, the teachers have a  staff meeting once a month and the kids get out early. It ended up starting to snow at 11:30 so I had to drive in it! eek I hate that.!!!!!!!It is supposed to be snowy all day into night. I am not sure if we will make it to that party in Boston on Saturday or not,  as another storm is coming,though the Hub seems determined to go.

Before school let out, I volunteered  for a little over 1 hour in the school library. I kinda got roped into it a few weeks ago. The librarian ( a Mom volunteer) thinks she can get me to take on more & more responsiblity ( and WORK and hassle), but I told her today I am happy with the Thursday 1 hour thing. More than that is NOT happening.  (smile politely)

Then I went by the store & got some bread, cheese, clementines & some Slimfast stuff. That worked for me in college, so I am giving it another whirl.

Duncan & I played out in the snow almost 1 hour, but it was too dry & fluffy to mold into snowballs, so we mostly pushed it about and cleared  off my back deck (second story deck). It was about 5-6 inches when we were out there. I am pretty sure school will be cancelled tomorow. If it isn;t I think I will keep D home anyway! I mean, it's KINDERGARTEN a week or so before Christmas! Like,  any learning going on? Seriously doubt that!

His school play is this Tuesday, 9:15 and 1:15. I am going to the a.m. one with my Hub & the p.m. one with my Mom. Then Friday is his class party, which the teacher asked me to come to & assist with. No worries there, I like being in his classroom. More than in  the library, that;s for sure!

OH! I saw "The Pursuit of Happyness" last night on Starz. It was so good! Will Smith is in it. He is quite phenomenal. I cried like a baby at the end! very inspiring movie.

New Years Resolutions early

I feel really good today, really healthy. I have been struggling for a few months now, trying to get my diet & fitness back on track and really stop drinking so much! I have a party to go to on Saturday, where there will be a lot of drinking, so I decided NOT to drink at all this week, and then to moderate at the party. The first few days were hairy!  When I get stressed I want to grab some wine, but I am having ice water or tea instead. 

Since my son started Kindergarten, I have not been taking care of myself at all, until Saturday. I realized I have gained back about 10 lbs of the 40-50 lbs I had lost, and I felt disgusted wiht myself! My clothes don't fit right and I am starting to HATE myself again. Before this gets too out of hand, I made the choice to get back into the healthy lifestyle. NOW, not January 1st!

It can be tricky to "diet" at the Holidays, but I am determined to do my best!

My son is doing very well, my Husband is back at work and working too hard, so I have a few minutes to get my head back on straight and get on that treadmill, stay AWAY from the junkfood, and drink water or tea instead of tanking up!

Busy Time

Been busy around here. Last week was really OFF. My Husband had time off of work, so we got some shopping done. Otherwise he just worked on projects around the house. Which means he got in my way. And tried to help with Duncan. Which means he got in my way. And etc etc

I totally love him and all, but it's just that Duncan & I are SO used to doing everything ON OUR OWN, always,& our own way. I mean, my Husband WORKS, that is all he does really, and I run the house, that is what I do. So when he is underfoot....wow. I sound awful iIknow, I sound so unappreciative. I sound so rigid, but that;' the way it is around here. And when he is home he is puttering around and just throwing EVERYTHING off.

SO! Today he is back at work, I got back into my exericse & dieting routine, which gets totally blown outta the water when he is here as well! He likes to take us out to lunch when he is off, whcih is nice but hard when you are dietting. I know, complaining again about my hub, when really he is sweet & great. We have a fun party to go to Saturday, whcih I am looking forward to! Really. I mean it. I love my Hub. i love hanging out with him  I just don't want him in my kitchen at 7 am trying to "help" me!  Ya know? I'm WORKING here!!!! heehee

Duncan is doing supergreat, looking forward to Christmas of course & FLOURISHING at that school! I thank God every day for that school, the reason we even moved to this town! And so worth it!

I am excited for Christmas as well, I love it & I love that it will be nice & small & quiet. I so enjoy it that way. Esp now that I am getting old! haha

The rest of this wek should be nice & scheduled, so I am happy!

pre-Thanksgiving in the Kindergarten room

Just came form the old weekly volunteering at the Kindergarten class. Man, those kids sure are cute, if not a bit wound up with the Holiday coming!

Duncan was chosen "star of the week" this week (even though it's a short week.) We had a Tickle Me Elmo visit with us all weekend and we had to Journal about his visit. Elmo got to go see "Bee Movie" (cute film!) with us, so I think he enjoyed his time here. Of course, I wa stuck carrying him all around the Mall, with 2 year olds looking at me funny. Like what is Elmo doing hanging out with that 40 year old lady haha!

Tomorrow Duncan gets to have a special Show & Tell and also bring in his fave book for storytime. I wonder what he will choose.

Almost lunchtime for me. My back is KILLING me which is a sure sign my Period is coming. Just in time for Thanksgiving! oh yay lucky me...not!

We are eating with my Mom & Aunt (1 town over) on Thanksgiving, and then this Saturday we are off to Cape Cod (Provincetown, at the end of the Cape, almost a 2 hour drive!) to eat with my SIL and FIL ( freshly sprung from the Nursing home for the occasion) and whoever else shows up. We have to stay overnight, but it's at the resort my SIL works for, AND she got us the PENTHOUSE suite! Not too shabby.

Snowing here today, just lightly. I hate driving in the snow. Lucky for me Duncan's school is so closeby.Did all my grocery shopping yesterday, so I am set.

can't start the Holidays too early for me!!

OK now it feels like the Holidays are almost here. I heard the kids singing Christmas carols at Duncan's school this week, prepping for their Holiday concert. (Dec 18) And I bought some of the fixings for the Thanksgiving dinners we are going to. One at my Moms on Thanksgiving (I bring sides) and the other on Saturday at my SIL's (I bring pies & brownies).

I made some of this cheese spread my Mom had at a restaraunt in Bermuda in the late 1970s that we have been eating ever since at special occasions. I LOVE it! So I am having cheese & crackers for lunch! YUM Not very healthy but hey it is Friday.And the wee Ritz crackers are even shaped like snowflakes!

I went to the Dollar Store and got the things I need to run a craft table at Duncan's school's Holiday Craft Fair, which is Dec 7. I also registered him for the gingerbread house making workshop at the Rec Center Dec 8. And My SIL is taking us all the Rhode Island (Gosh I hate Rhode Island!) to ride on the Polar Express the first weekend after Thanksgiving.

It is  SO feeling like the Holidays here, and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

good news all around

That SpEd meeting went well. Duncan is all set to get PT & OT. They also want him to have Speech therapy, whcih I don't particularally agree with, but it will be OK I guess. Speech is in the morning and his new best friend, Little R, has it as well, so it own't be a huge deal. It is only 2 days a week anyway.

I will have to drop him off at school earlier 2 days a week for him to receive his PT, but that is no big deal either. And the OT is only twice a week, too, and seems pretty minimally disruptive. I think that is one on one, I'll have to check on that.

Gave the Hub the lowdown this a.m. and he told me I don't have to get a part time job this year after all!!!He has been thinking on it and we would have to get Childcare for D which would eat up any $$$ I made anyway. So, as usual, my #1 job will be to be  Mommy to Duncan! Oh, yay, oh, hooray! Cos I did not really want to work anyway! Who would??????

I mean, if something comes up that looks good & fits in with our schedules, then I will take it. But for all practical purposes, my Get Outta Jail card just got  punched til September 2008 at least! wa-hoo!!!!!!
