Vacation.....What a Lovely Idea!

10:34 AM, Nov. 4, 2005 .. Posted in Purrrrr .. 3 comments .. Link

Well, I was reading other posts & commenting when I came upon Tiffany's blog and read her entry and how she was longing for a vacation but couldn't seem to get away for more than 24 hours. I started to comment but it got very long, so I decided to turn it into a post in my blog for today.

For the past 2 years, my girlfriend and I have made it a point to take a long weekend every October and GET AWAY FROM THE MEN AND THE KIDS for a few days. This year it coincided with her mom's 50th b-day so we made the trip to her hometown in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Very nice. Last year, we stayed a little closer to home but went to the opposite end of the state and stayed in a B & B in a little town. That was sooooooooo relaxing. We were pampered and taken care of from the minute we got there. The hostess even called us when we were about 30 minutes late for the estimated arrival time we had given her just to make sure nothing had happened to us. I have my get away already planned for next year. My friend is pregnant with #3 baby and won't be able to go with me since he won't be old enough to leave with Dad for more than a day just yet. My sister who lives in Denver told me yesterday that for THIS Christmas she is buying tickets for myself, my daughter and our other sister to go to Denver NEXT OCTOBER to see the Broadway traveling production of The Lion King. It's a long time to wait, but will be worth it!

OK! Poll time!

Do you get breaks from your kids spouses/significant others on a regular basis? Ever? What do you do and where do you go when it does happen? What would you like to do?  It's a Friday Free for All!

a break?!?!

11:05 AM, Nov. 4, 2005 .. Posted by buhing513
i don't remember the last time i got a break from the hubby and kids! dave and i didn't even get a babysitter for our anniversary in january...we haven't been out by ourselves in over a year. with the way our schedules are right now, we'd be lucky to just get a dinner alone, let alone some time to get away from each other.

if i could i would go to a day spa and get a massage and a whole body exfoliation. maybe that would help the whole "crawling out of my skin" feeling i always have. and i would leave my cell phone behind.

I am going into Boston (1 hour away) by bus to lunch & shop, then meet an old friend to go to a Bruins game!
My son is 3 1/2 and the last Bruins game I went to was still pregnant with him! April 13 2002, was the game, and he was born by C section May 8, 2002!!!

I cannot TELL you how much I look forward to this day!

I am fortunate to get a lot of breaks. First of all....this is a second marriage for both of us. Our kids spend every other weekend at their other parent's. This give Tim & me 2 wonderful weekends alone a month. I have often said it is what keeps our marriage so strong.

Also, I go to class 2 nights a week, so while it is still work, it gives me a chance to get out with other adults and have some intelligent conversations.

And, my best friend and I go out to lunch once every month or so. We also occasionally have a girl's night out when we go to dinner and a movie.

On a VERY rare occasion (maybe once every 6 months) hubby will go out of town on a night we don't have the kids. I am often quite at a loss as to what to do with myself. I often get more housework accomplished than any other time just because I HAVE the time to do it.

The weekend getaway sounds like a great idea. I am going to have to call my best friend and see if she would be up for a weekend at the beach during the winter. Rates are cheap, weather is mild, and NO CROWDS.
