Wedding - check

A week ago, I was getting excited because it was almost time to leave for sis 2's wedding. Today, I am finally getting back into the groove of things.
The wedding itself was uneventful and we all had a fabulous time, but there was definitely some drama involved in the whole process. In fact, I think I need to give out an award for this...
The award for Senior Citizen Acting Like a Toddler - goes to (drumroll please) my dad. I will spare you all the details and only talk about a couple highlights. When she got engaged, sis 2 - who is 34 and has been out of the house for 16 years and owns her own house, etc - decided she was not going to have anyone walk her down the aisle. She told dad about this in December, well over 6 months before the wedding. I think he convinced himself she would change her mind before the wedding and have him do it. Well, she didn't. At rehearsal, he was all bent out of shape and pissy about it. He was also pissy about the fact that my mom's 2 sisters were walking down the aisle as "honored guests" in mom's place since she's dead and can't be there herself. He didn't understand why his sister couldn't also walk down the aisle as an honored guest because "She's her aunt too." She came up to me & sis 3 at the rehearsal dinner and told us "You two better straighten him out on this 'cuz if I do it, I'm gonna blow." So sis 3 looks at me and says, "Looks like it's you." because she doesn't even talk to him unless she absolutely has to. So I took him aside and in a nutshell told him to stop, this is sis 2's wedding and let her have it the way she wants it and be happy for her. If he chose to pout, I told him to stay in his hotel room. I also added that it was his fault and his jaw dropped to the floor. "What the hell do you mean by that?" he says. I told him that he helped raise three very independent and strong-willed daughters that were going to do things the way we want and not give a rat's ass what other people think. As far as his sister not being an "honored guest" I told him that he is here to walk down the aisle himself and he didn't need anyone to walk in his place unless he chose not to show up for the wedding. So, after that he simmered down, and I am told he even called sis 2 later that night and apologized.
I wish I could say that was the last of his acting like a jackass. But sadly, I can't. Long story short, at the reception, he was sitting at the same table as mom's 2 sisters, one of their daughters, among a few others. The two aunts got up, leaving the cousin there at the table. He starts to gossip about the cousin's mom with the people remaining at the table, forgetting the cousin is still there. Cousin gets pissed, finds her mom, who had enough wine in her system that she came back to the table and confronted him. Of course he denied it, and then half the table got up and left and came over to the table that sis 3 and I were sitting at which is when we found out what happened. Sis 2 still doesn't know that this particular episode happened, she was out on the dance floor. Maybe she'll find out, maybe we'll just keep it buried. Who knows.
There's a story about a mishap on the way home, but I'll have to save it for tomorrow. It's time for lunch! Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 200 of 300 } { Next Page } |
