An Up & Down Kinda Day
The roses from Leo and the card from Shelby.
Dumbass called.
Work was good.
My car has been running bad & nothing has worked to fix it so far. Leo took it in to a mechanic. The verdict: a stuck valve - $1000 to fix. That is the best of 3 choices I have: fix it; drive it as is; start shopping for another car.
Leo knows some people from a community college nearby. He said they might take the car as a class project and fix it. The thing is, it will take a month or more. But, it will cost me half of what the mechanic would charge. I've been driving Leo's car for the past week and he said I was more than welcome to keep driving it until we get this mess figured out.
I'm crossing my fingers that we can get the community college to take it on as a project. I'm also thanking my lucky stars that I have someone to help me with this whole mess, otherwise I'd be screwed. When it comes to dealing with mechanics & cars & all that I am completely clueless.
I have P-T conferences today for Shelby....I'm thinking they will be all right. The grades I've seen coming home and the progress reports I've gotten all indicate that the 3rd quarter slump that is so customary for her may not be the case this year. Yesterday I was reading back through some of my posts from a year ago and she was really having a rough time.

Car trouble sucks

Not many things piss me off more than car trouble. It is hard enough to try to make ends meet without throwing tons of money into a car.....but you HAVE to have one. So sorry you are having to make such a big decision.....and that all the options pretty much stink.
Glad to hear Shelby is doing good. Let us know what the teachers say.

I HATE CARS!
I feel for you about the car situation. . BIG TIME! I absolutely HATE cars other than having to drive one. Here is one HIGHLY unethical suggestion. GET RID OF IT BEFORE ANYONE KNOW'S WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT!!! Or, maybe one of those college kids who will be working on it will want to buy it. Most times, if they know how to work on them and need a vehicle, they are more willing to take it off your hands. Then, you can get yourself a good used vehicle. I would start looking now while you have the use of someone else's to drive and give it some thought.
I go to college with my twins right now and I'm telling you, those college kids are quite creative when it comes to getting cars! You might ask your friend to put a posting up at the college that you are looking for a vehicle or 'put the word out' for you. You'd be amazed at the networking these kids do!
On the school-front. I bet your daughter is doing fine. Keep in mind the schools have their own agenda and if any child doesn't fit into their mold, something must be wrong with the child. Also, it is the time of year now where they don't learn anything new, they start gearing up for the SOL's (that's what they call them here in VA, the Standard of Learning test's). Something I personally completely disagree with but, it's done nonetheless. Sometimes you have to filter out the good from the 'what the school's needs are' when the teacher is speaking. Have faith in your child. It all comes out in the wash. And it's true. . . the bad genes. . blame on Dad (ha, ha)! Good Luck to you!
