If You'd Been This Accommodating a Couple Months Ago, We Wouldn't Be Having this Conversation!

Last June, after coming out of the divorce & bankruptcy with a credit score in the "bottom feeder" range, I applied for and got two cards with small limits that would help build my credit back up and be there when I had a crisis & no money.  One card provided ID theft protection and the other monitored my credit score & reports every month.  (both of which I paid a monthly fee for)

I used the cards wisely, paying faithfully every month, usually more than the minimum and never missed a payment.   I also never went over my limit on either card.  As I did all this, my credit score rose 150 points from last June.   In January I paid them both off when I got my tax refund.  In February, to thank me for being such a model customer, I got a letter from both cards saying that my interest rate was going to go to 30%!!!  I don't think so!  I called the customer service dept. on both cards, and got nothing but a big run around.  All anybody ever told me was "It's a business decision." over and over and over again, that's all I got.  I ranted, I raved, I was calm, I was polite, professional, bitchy, it didnt' matter, nothing happened, nothing changed even though I asked several times for the interest rates to just be left alone.

So - I searched for credit card offers that had 0% interest on balance transfers and things like that.  I found one that had 0% balance transfer and new purchases til Nov. '08.  No annual fee, and provided ID protection and credit report monitoring for free. No brainer there, so I applied and was approved.   Yay!!! I got that card in March and have been using it since.

I transferred one balance and paid the other one off from the old cards.  Today I called them both and told them I was cancelling their cards.  And they were so surprised and disappointed that I was doing that.  I was offered credit limit increases, (No thanks) a discount on the membership fee renewal (uh, nope) interest free one-time cash advance (no) and other assorted ass kissing manuevers were made in an attempt to keep me from cancelling.   I asked both account managers "Where was all this service and butt kissing when I wanted to keep my interest rate from changing and wanted to know why?" BITE ME!!!

So now, both old cards are history and my new card is the only one I have.  That suits me just fine.

***************update from yesterday*************************

We ended up getting a free day of pool use from the college and a lifeguard at no charge from the city. (that's who the lifeguards work for)  I also told them I thought there needs to be a letter of apology from both lifeguards to Shelby for ruining her party.   Pizza Hut has yet to hear from me, but I should be on their butts this afternoon.   Dumbass just called a few minutes ago wanting to know what Shelby wants for her bday (which is actually today).  So tonight, she will see him after I take her out to dinner.

2 days til I leave for convention in Minnesota.......can't wait!!!!

Credit cards

2:03 PM, May. 1, 2007 .. Posted by AndeeDawn
I haven't had a credit card yet that didn't try to burn me. Right now, we have one with a small limit just in case it is needed. Otherwise, we tear up the offers when they come in the mail. I did the same as you using them to rebuilt my credit. However, the interest rates were killing me. So, bye bye.

I hope Shelby gets those letters of apology.
