The house.  The house!!! What am I gonna do about the house?

I would like to move there because:

It's in the country, it's more than double the size of my current house, it's the same rent.  (major, major, major)

I am hesitating because:

There is propane heat there, the tank is just buried under & behind the shrubs & weeds around it. (major)

I haven't found out about winter time...how soon the roads get cleared, how bad they drift, etc. (minor)

I still haven't shown it to Shelby.  I doubt very much that she's going to want to stay out there alone at night while I go to class.  She doesn't like staying home alone now, let alone moving 5 miles out into the country. (major)

I did talk to the landlady about it a little this morning.  She told me everything they're planning on doing.  Clearing out the overgrowth, taking out a couple trees, tearing down a couple outbuildings that need to go. Inside the house, there is major clean-up to do.  They are going to replace the living room carpet, and the rest of the house is hardwood floors, which they will clean up. I was hoping they'd update the kitchen some, but she didn't say anything about that.  They got the keys from "Grandpa" and will meet me there and let me look around inside some evening next week.  Regarding the propane, she said that the propane dealer would let me pay in installments.  They have propane also, and have used one service in the past but they've been bought out by someone else.  She was going to check with dealers in surrounding towns to see who would give her the best deal. So, I'm still sittin' on the fence about the whole thing.

I would be content to stay where I am because moving sucks. No matter what the reason, it sucks.

I would like to move because it's so freakin' small!  Shelby & I are tripping over each other all the time.  I am forever stubbing my toes on furniture as I pass through the living room on my 2 a.m. pee run. Company? Forget it. Unless it's one person at a time and then there's much shuffling involved to make sure everybody has a place to sit.

So, right now, this decision is still very much up in the air....

Shelby is on her way back from South Dakota as I'm typing this.  She said they should be back between 6 & 8 tonight.  Well, thanks for narrowing it down! She's so excited to be coming back. She shot 5 rolls of pictures - 120!  I told her I hoped she still had money left over to pay for the developing of those pictures. Not that I wouldn't pay for it if she didn't, but.....

Now, she's carrying on about not wanting to go to MN the 16th - 20th.  I really, really think she should go.  That trip is with girl scouts and for nothing but fun.  They have been working for 3 years to earn this trip! I can't believe she is not wanting to go. Then again, she is only 13, and has just been away from home for 9 days. I get that. I just don't want her to regret the decision to not go, if that is what she ends up deciding. Hopefully she changes her mind after she's back a few days.  They are going to Mall of America & a Twins game, going to the Minneapolis waterfront, and staying at a girl scout camp up there, they will be going on a tour of an ice cream factory on the way up, and on the way back, they will spend an afternoon at a state recreation area picnicing and swimming.  I hope she decides to go.

I have homework out the wazoo this weekend.  2 papers to write final drafts of, 2 to write rough drafts of, and about 180 math problems to do.  A 4-chapter math quiz is on the agenda for Tuesday morning. ugggggghhhhh - is summer term over yet? That's my weekend plan, hope y'all have some fun for me.

The good and bad face of summer school

On one hand summer school is great...you get to knock out courses in a matter of 8-10 weeks. The downside...you have to do the same amount of work in the shorter amount of time.

This is the first summer I have had off & I"m really glad I decide to take the break. After almost 2 years of no break....I was ready for a small one.

I can see all the pros & cons for the house, too. Most propane companies around here let you set it up on a year round plan, so you don't get socked with it all during the winter. Of course, you probably would spend a lot more on it there than we do here. By comparision, our winters are very mild in North Carolina.

Good luck with the homework this weekend. Don't forget to take a break sometime.

The house in the country sounds great, except like you, I never want to move again. Haven't moved in the last 24 yrs. and will never do so cause we own. But I would like to be in the country, can see why Shelby might not like the evenings alone out in the country though too.
