We recently hired a couple nurses who are still on orientation.  Yesterday one of them made the mistake of trying to mess with me.

She was originally scheduled this week to work Monday, Tuesday (which ended the pay period) then Friday, Saturday, Sunday, all 12-hour shifts.  She missed Monday & Tuesday because her mom was sick & in the hospital.  She asked to be scheduled Wednesday & Thursday as make-up.   Yesterday morning, she came into my office and asked if she really should work all 5 shifts in a row, because that would be overtime.  I said yes, it would, and no, we probably shouldn't have that.  So, I took her off of today and Friday, and told her she would then work Saturday and Sunday.  Her reply was "Oh." Ha. Trying to get the weekend off?  I don't think so.  Not when it's your regular schedule.  She asked if since she was already working yesterday, couldn't she just do 3 in a row?  Nope.  Policy here states you work your weekend and if you can't, you find your own replacement. It doesn't matter if you're on orientation.  You work your schedule.  She left, and I went on with my day.

About 3:30 in the afternoon, the nurse manager called me and asked me to clarify this nurse's original schedule.  Why???? The NM said that the nurse was saying that she didn't think she had to work the weekend, that it had been added to her schedule when she got back from being off w/her mom. Trying to screw me over like that already??? This girl has only worked here for 4 weeks.  So, I set the NM straight and the call ended.

10 minutes later, my boss comes into my office asking the same thing!!! Good lord, does this girl not know when to quit??? I told the boss, "She is flat-out lying to you." and showed her the original schedule. The boss left, and that's all I heard on the subject.

Usuallly, it takes a couple tries to make it onto My LIST.  This time, this primadonna has done it on the first try.  There are 2 people you should be nice to at your job.  The person who is in charge of your schedule, and the person who does your paycheck. I've got 8 years here and 18 yrs of age on that girl.  Did she really think she was gonna win?
